1 Year of Photography || Thankfulness

AN-20 1 year. It has been one entire year since I decided to go on this journey and even though this may seem cliché, I feel like that this journey chose me. I took a photojournalism class due to a requirement for my major and for the first time, someone placed a DSLR in my hands and said, “go shoot.” Photography became something that I was thirsty for. It was something that I would wake up early for and after the class ended, my crave became more evident. Caleb-13

Zach supported my decision when I decided to buy a camera. It wasn’t that I wanted to start a business, but I firmly believed that God blessed me with an opportunity to create beauty from everyday life.

My first “shoot” was with my beautiful friend and her fiancé. I was all over the place. Somewhat of a wreck. The temperature outside was below 25 degrees. However, they were patient with me and the pictures actually turned out great!

Throughout this past year I have discovered that I love weddings and engagement shoots. I love families and seniors. I need to improve in the area of children. For some reason, little children like to run away from me. But the best thing is that, God-willing, I will have another year to hone in those techniques. AL-1

God also strategically placed mentors in my life that truly “showed me the ropes.”

Erik O’Brien – you were my very own wedding photographer. Your images of my commitment to Zach helped me fall in love with photography. Thank you for teaching me technical aspects of photography. Your small tips here and there guided me into a stronger love for photos.

Elise Lukow – You will never understand the depths of gratitude I feel when I think of the first time you asked me to shoot with you. Your leadership has helped me understand the emotional tie that a client gains with their photographer. Thank you for taking a chance on me and for becoming one my dearest friends. Watching you has pushed me to do my best and to do it for the glory of God.

Thank you to everyone I have had the opportunity to come in contact with because of photography.

I have had the chance to do 30 shoots (engagement, senior, love, family, newborn, and maternity).

AK-41I have second shot 6 weddings.

I shot 6 weddings this year by myself. That equals 12 weddings total (6 second shot, 6 solo weddings). Crazy!

Lastly, this hobby and business would mean absolutely nothing if it wasn’t for our Heavenly Father. It is through Him that I find rest and it is through Him that I find joy.  Even when I started this journey, my goal was to allow all glory be given to His name and my prayer is that it continues to be His and never mine.

“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith.” Philippians 3:8-9

May all glory be to God.
